The Vintage Babies is a dynamic blend of two talents, Maimouna Youssef and DJ Dummy The Genius, who are bringing forth a refreshing mix consisting of Soul, R&B, Rap/Hip-Hop, Funk, Jazz, and Latin Soul.
Maimouna Youssef aka “Mumu Fresh” is a Grammy nominated seasoned singer, emcee, songwriter and producer. She received a Grammy nomination for her contribution on the Roots hit “Don’t Feel Right” in 2007 for best rap song.
DJ Dummy is an unlikely name for a mastermind, but don’t be fooled by the name. This Battle, Club and renowned Concert DJ who adds Musical Director and Producer to his resume, hails from Brooklyn, New York.
Vintage Babies is the title of the collaborative album from the two. The album consists of 17 soul and hip hop head bangers and features musical greats like Grammy & Oscar award winning Common, as well as some incredible songwriting and vocal help from Top Dawg’s own SIR, Malik Yusef , and Baltimore’s Rose Gold from the Polly seeds.
This is not the first time DJ Dummy and Maimouna Youssef have collaborated. They have toured together for several years with Common and in 2014 they released a mixtape together entitled The Reintroduction of Mumu Fresh. DJ Dummy and Mumu Fresh are not new to the music scene, but if your ears are new to the sounds they’ve been creating and curating for almost a decade then check out their track records.
Vintage Babies is a revival of the Soul, Funk, & Gospel sounds that Hip hop was founded on. The aim of Vintage Babies is celebrate the resilience and power of the human spirit through the utilization of the soulful sounds that have gotten us through difficult times in our history and will surely continue to do so for years to come. Vintage Babies will pull on an array of emotional strings sending you into lucid euphoric dance states in one moment then transition you into deep thought provoking storytelling about the state of humanity in the next moment with a little comic relief in between.
