On December 5, 2018 Academy Award-winning, Grammy-nominated artist/producer DJ Paul of Three 6 Mafia launched his new Mafia Radio podcast on Dash Radio. The raw, comedic talk show will air every Wednesday evening at 6pm PST / 9pm EST on Clinton Sparks’ Dash Mixtape channel. Each week, DJ Paul will feature special guests, new music and more. The first show spotlights Memphis duo Seed of 6ix, who happen to be Paul’s actual nephews, along with aspiring refinery entrepreneur Kelly. They discuss everything from the influences and meaning behind Seed of 6ix’s new project, to more controversial topics like how social media plays into dating, and how women can make bedroom activities more gratifying for men.
The acclaimed King of Memphis is by no means new to building a brand, as he has enjoyed success with his line of DJ Paul BBQ spices, rubs and grilling products in recent years, as well as continued growth of Three 6 Mafia apparel. Paul has also done some long-standing radio shows in his career, but in recent months he began developing ideas for a podcast, and Mafia Radio was born.
“My past experience with radio included the Paul & Juicy Show on XM before the Sirius merger; and Trapper’s Night Out on Hot 107 in Memphis, but it was on regular radio so I couldn’t do or play what i wanted,” Paul explains. “With Mafia Radio, it’s all me – I say and play what i want. I’ve been tied up lately producing for everyone else, from major artists to my own indie artists like Seed of 6ix, so I made the decision that 2019 was going to be my year to focus on me and what I like to do. I’m making beats, remixes, and making people laugh, along with premiering some of my new solo music, so Mafia Radio is all that! Before i was a rapper, i made clean radio edits and remixes for DJ Stan Bell on K97, the number one radio station in Memphis. It was always my love. Now I can do it for the world.”
This year, DJ Paul attained epic viral status with his #WhoRunItChallenge freestyle, which was taken on by the likes of G-Herbo, Young M.A., A$AP Rocky, Tekashi69, 21 Savage, and even Juicy J, along with a plethora of other talented rappers. While Paul has consistently been putting out music the past decade, his recent production on Drake’s “Talk Up” featuring Jay-Z, and an incredible number of hit songs sampling his classic beats and hooks from artists like Cardi B, Travis Scott, Rae Sremmurd, A$AP Ferg and more pushed DJ Paul back into the spotlight as a go-to producer. Needless to say, his deck for 2019 is stacked.
As he gears up for his new solo album coming early in the new year, and steadily promotes his work with Seed of 6ix’s new album A Beginners Guide to Destruction, Paul is making his “me” year count in a big way as Mafia Radio grows strong. “My goal with the show is to entertain fans, while teaching them some of things I’ve learned over the decades of my career. Eventually I’ll make this bigger and bigger! Every week you can expect the latest hot club records…some with DJ Paul remixes to them, obviously Mafia music new and old, and even some never before heard underground Mafia music. I know that people will be entertained by me and my exciting guests, from celebs to everyday cool people telling their life stories that we all may learn something from.”
