April 12th, 2017 marks the 2-year anniversary of the tragic Freddie Gray incident that took place in Baltimore, MD. Gray’s hospitalization and subsequent death resulted in an ongoing series of protests. On April 25, 2015, a major protest in downtown Baltimore turned violent, resulting in 34 arrests and injuries to 15 police officers. Since then America has continued to deal with the harsh reality that police brutality is still very much an issue that we still face as a Nation.

In memory of Freddie Gray, Eric Garner, Sandra Bland and Tamir Rice, Baltimore Hip Hop Artist King Kuan has created a video and song entitled “Demons.” This controversial yet heart felt composition addresses the issue of police brutality head on and has received great initial support for its critical, yet non-violent approach to this highly sensitive subject. Kuan wanted his nation-wide debut to not only make a statement, but to spark a great amount of conversation surrounding the issue of certain police officers abusing their authority. “I created this song because for too long I have just sat quiet. The fact that I am half Asian and Caucasian I feel like possibly my perspective will be embraced on a wider spectrum. I felt it was only right to use my talent to address an issue that has continued to get out of hand. I know that all cops are not bad, but I also know that a small percentage don’t deserve to wear that badge” said Kuan.

Proceeds from commercial sales of this song will be donated to the Baltimore based “Beats Not Bullets” summer internship program. The goal of the program is to foster awareness of how simple grass-roots community efforts can increase technology access for inner-city youth. Interns receive real world, hands-on experience and training on a full suite of modern audio recording equipment. The experience allows interns to work closely with professionals from their community and give them direct insight into the entrepreneurial process.
