Megadon – “Play My Jazz” | @DonaldRCole

Donald Robinson Cole, a hip-hop Artist and video producer also known as Megadon, takes  a tour of jazz history in the new video for “Play My Jazz”.

Inspired by Quasimoto’s 2000 album The Unseen, the Montreal, Canada native created the upbeat sound for “Play My Jazz” more than 10 years ago. Megadon borrowed the first note of “Boom Music” and added random voice samples to make the record.

Infusing all types of jazz references into the lyrics, Megadon begins with the opening lines:  “I must be the loneliest monk when it comes to the funk / bass lines like Mingus puts the  junk in her trunk” .

Delivering two verses sprinkled with jazz wisdom throughout, Megadon shows appreciation for the greats like Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Cannonball Adderley, and  so many others.

“The video for ‘Play My Jazz’ is literally inspired by Tasha Digital,” said Megadon, who directed and produced the visuals. “She’s a walking version of jazz.”

The video shows Tasha Digital, also known as Analog Lady, digging for jazz on vinyl at Hi-Fi Records in Astoria, Queens. Megadon recites jazz-laced rhymes in front of legendary Harlem nightclubs, including The Cotton Club and Lenox Lounge, in between clips of  historic live jazz performances, while Tasha’s getting her hands dirty in the crates.

The standalone single “Play My Jazz” is the first of new music on the way. Megadon has previously appeared on songs with some of Hip-Hop’s favorites, including Large Professor, Sadat X & Smif N Wessun. When he’s not recording music, Megadon’s producing music videos for some of hip hop’s top stalwarts.
