STF Chef inspires others to work for what they want with new album

DETROIT, MI – Shayne Williams graduated high school at the age of 16. He has always loved to cook. But what started as a hobby that earned him the nickname Chef has grown to take on a deeper meaning as he pursues a career as a hip-hop artist. No longer is he mixing and mastering ingredients in the kitchen. Today, his recipes are put together in the studio, and the result is a unique new sound and style that will surely make people turn their heads and pay attention.

His most recent offering is a 12-song album that’s slated to drop later this month. Self-titled under his stage name STF Chef – which stands for State Fair, Detroit, which is his home town – the album will explore his life and lifestyle growing up in the inner city of Detroit. His unique perspective from the middle-class burbs while seeing things from the inner city is an original take on a genre that has been saturated with songs from the struggle. Unlike others from the famed hip-hop city, STF Chef brings an album that focuses on positivity and uses music to inspire others to chase their dreams.

“The vibe of it is like a go-get-money vibe,” Chef said. “I want somebody to listen to it and be like, ‘I can go get some money.’ It’s not an album that’s limited to one person or crowd. I’ve got music for females on there. I’ve got stuff for young kids on there. And, of course, there are songs that all kinds of people will be able to relate to. And through it all I have the Detroit sound, but it’s not the same as what people think of as ‘Detroit music.’ I’m talking about different things. I’m not talking about selling drugs or anything like that. I’m showing people that the illegal route is not the only way. I’m giving people a different perspective to making money.”

The first single off the album is called “My Last One,” and it’s already available for download on all digital distributions sites. In addition to being the first song he ever recorded, it’s also the song that made him decide to pursue music full-time. His older brother Kay.est is a rapper and is featured on the LMV Various Artists album “Street Life” along with STF Chef, Rich Lee, and Big Quizzy. Chef always looked up to him and often tried to emulate him by rapping – at lunch tables, in locker rooms, in classrooms … anywhere he went. Kay.est never thought he was serious about music, so he went to the studio to prove that he was serious and ended up producing “My Last One.”

“People started listening to it and it was blowing up,” Chef said. “I had 4,000 plays in the first month and I was like, ‘This is real life! People are really listening to me. People I know from my neighborhood are listening to my song and loving it.’ That’s when I realized I could really do this.”

The song, much like the album, is an anthem to anyone out there that he is her to stay. It’s a song that encourages others with nothing to put the work in to make something of themselves. “I want to let people know you don’t need things handed to you,” he said. “If you work hard, you get what you want.”
