Mountain region rapper helps others overcome demons with two new singles

RIFLE, CO – A young new artist from the Mountain region of Colorado and Wyoming is ready to make his mark on the hip-hop industry with two new singles.

Zel is a rapper from Rifle, Colorado who recently moved to Wyoming. He grew up with an older brother who loved music and would always rap around the house, and though Zel never considered himself as good of a rapper as his brother, he decided to give it a shot once he got to Wyoming. The more he crafted his music, the better he got and the more positive reactions he received from those who heard it. He also discovered that making music – especially writing lyrics – was a great form of therapy. He has often struggled with mental health and depression, and using music as an outlet for his emotions has helped him through some difficult times.

The collision of all those things – a new home, positive response from fans, and a healthy creative outlet – have all led to his first two singles as a professional artist. The first is a song called “Remember,” which is perfect for his first song as it mixes “a bunch of random stuff thrown together” into a sound that is uniquely his own.

“The main thing about this song is that I talk about not putting on a façade and coming to the fact that I’ve dealt with my demons,” Zel said. “There’s nothing you can do about those demons sometimes but live with them. So move on and live with it when you can’t change the situation.”

Zel said the overall vibe of the song is relatively dark – an “Earl Sweatshirt mixed with Joey Badass type of beat,” he said. The theme of the song is one that he hopes becomes something he’s known for as an artist – someone who always stays true to himself and doesn’t put on a façade, but instead lives his life one day at a time. It’s a walk of life that hasn’t always been obvious to him. In fact, his music has also been a form of self-discovery, and his second single, “Meaning,” tells the tale of that journey. It’s a song that commiserates with others who have felt at a loss of purpose and who often feel alone in the world.

Both singles are the first toward a bigger mixtape project called “Lost in Vivid Emptiness,” which Zel hopes to complete by the end of the year. All of the songs on that mixtape will explore things he has gone through with mental health, depression and anxiety.
